Over 80 dogs and cats were pulled from the filth and fear of that hellish place, their eyes still haunted by forgotten pain.
Unfortunately, there are people who think that these animals, because they are not equal to humans, do not deserve to be treated as such; they are merely living beings because they breathe, forgetting that they have feelings, and if that were the case, they would have no value.
We are faced with a situation of negligence, a grave violation of cruelty, which has serious consequences for the lives of these animals, who are invisible to the eyes of those who are supposed to have the moral duty to provide them with affection and protection.
Today, 55 dogs and 34 cats are finally receiving the care they deserve after being rescued from an “extremely cruel situation” in Jones County, Mississippi, the Humane Society of the United States ( HSUS ) reported.
According to HSUS, “the animals appeared to be suffering from a lack of veterinary care and were housed in conditions typically seen in situations of gross neglect.”
After the Jones County Sheriff’s Department served a search and seizure warrant on the 161-acre property, the Humane Society of the United States responded to the local law enforcement request for assistance, along with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife,
The horror revealed by the rescue team describes animals requiring immediate veterinary attention. Dogs and cats were suffering, locked in filthy, dilapidated cages covered in cobwebs , spread across a dark, unventilated room. The strong odor permeated the entire place, making it unbearable.
Thanks to the efforts of the rescue team, the animals were removed from the property and safely transported to a temporary emergency shelter. They were examined by Dr. Kirk Frazier of All Veterinary Clinic and received immediate medical treatment. RedRover first responders assisted in caring for the animals at the shelter.
For their part, the rescue organizations expressed their gratitude for the generous donations from those who support the care of the rescued animals.
Only five animals that were not surrendered will continue to be cared for by experts until the judicial process issues the final decision in the case.
This case highlights the need for stricter laws in Mississippi to protect animals from cruelty. The HSUS hopes this rescue can lead to a change in that regard.
